Cambridgeshire Pool Association (CPA) has built a digital intercounty scoring system that can be used by all EPA counties.
The system works for all 8 EPA regions, is preconfigured with all counties and the different sections that are played across the country.
The idea is simple, but the machine under the hood is far from it. There are 2 web pages, one is the electronic match scoreboard and the other is the match results overview.
All counties can have their logo assigned. We have tried to find the best ones we can online, but not all were available at the time of searching, and some are low quality. Please feel free to get in touch with your logo if you would like it added or improved at no cost.
The match scoreboard can be used on multiple web enabled devices, typically one per section to display and increment the current match score while the results overview simultaneously displays the current score in all sections, ideal for displaying on the screens around the club for everyone to see.
All devices are synchronised so score increments are automatically reflected across all devices without the need for refresh or mouse clicks.
Each county has a passcode. The same passcode is used on all devices. The home team has to enter the passcode to start a match on each device using the system. Passcodes are automatically renewed at the start of each year, making use of the system an annual subscription model. Passcode keys are all random 5 digits, 0-9.
Both screens require entering some basic information about the match in a predefined order since the selection made in field 1 affects the values that are displayed in field 2, and then selection made in field 2 affects the values displayed in field 3 and so on. There are 4 fields to complete on the scoreboard (Region, Home Team, Away Team and Section), and 3 fields on the results overview (Region, Home Team and Away Team).
The scorecards that are saved inside the system are kept and used for 5 days from the date that they are first created. After this, they are permanently deleted and cannot be retrieved, so there is no way to get them back. This application is just a scoreboard, it is not a result card.
The match formats are included inside the application, which ensure that you cannot make a total score higher than the match allows (i.e. 44 frames for adults and over 50's, 36 frames for under 18's, 20 frames for under 23's and 12 frames for over 60's).
Using the scoreboard and the results overview is designed to be self-explanatory. When you load the page on your browser, look for the flashing field. You must make a selectin here before moving to the next flashing field:
The white icon in the top-left corner brings you back to this information page and the one in the top-right makes the view go 'full-screen', recommended for the best on-screen view.
The system will not allow you add more frames to a match than the section format requires.
