Subject: England trialists

With the 2008 County pool season becoming a distant memory the realisation of individual acheivements becomes apparent with the announcement of the EPA England Trials for 2009.

After a season of mixed fortunes in the Men's squad Cambridge based Paul Stelmaszuk gains a place in the Men's trials finishing a joint 7th in the regional Rankings.

In the Ladies section, having risen to the challange on two fronts this year both in the Region Four Inter Counties league, finishing second to Norfolk and the National Knockout cup where they gained a semifinalists spot we can honour 5 of our ladies who have been rewarded with trials

Peterborough cueist's Liz Disney and Becky Watkins
Cambridge players Julie MacKintosh and Melissa Cook
And St Neots Based Nikki Bayes.

For Liz its a third year in succession and prevoius experience will count for a lot.
Becky, who at only 15, makes her 2nd trip to the trials to re afirm the talent in our youth around the County

Nikki Bayes, a previous England Squad player, gets a deserved opportunity to gain her place back.

Julie and Mel get there first opportunity to fulfil a seasons work and all Five could well Join their Captain and ever present England Player Carly Smith in the colours of the national team.

Our ever improving Youth squad also do not go unnoticed with no fewer than 6 players gaining trials at either youth level or under 21's.

Jamie Stokes having impressingly won the regions Rankings with 80% of frames won has gained an under 21 trial and although he has trialled at youth level in previous years this step up could be just the tonic for him.

Other successful youth trialists are
Glen Hannibal from St Neots
John Chapman from Cambridge
Scott Anderson, Andrew Cook and Shane Knappert all from Peterborough.

John and Andrew also join Jamie in the under 21 trials.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Pool Associations would like to congratulate all these players for outstanding acheivement's and wish them all success at their respective trials.
For Cambridgeshire to be sending 12 players to the trials shows we are moving in the right direction.

2009 gets under way in earnest on January 11th with the mens trials for the Cambridgeshire Squad followed by The Ladies and Youth on the 18th. both being held at Cambridge Snooker Centre (see attached poster for details)
